Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Sen. Lisa Baker have announced that $257,400 has been allocated for the development of a non-motorized boat launch at Ira Reynolds Park in Susquehanna County. The funding was approved through the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s Boating Facility Grant Program.
“The funding that Ira Reynolds Park is receiving is an important outdoor recreation investment, and part of a larger effort to revitalize the area for more people and families to enjoy,” stated Fritz and Baker. They emphasized that the improvements will enhance access to the Susquehanna River for operators of non-motorized vessels such as canoes and kayaks, providing them with additional recreational opportunities along the river.
Mary Butler from the Susquehanna Borough Advisory Committee expressed gratitude for the support from Rep. Fritz and Sen. Baker, stating, “We absolutely could not have been successful in obtaining the grant without the support of Rep. Fritz and Sen. Baker.” She added that “the grant is an enormous gift to our community and is a huge step toward making the non-motorized ramp a reality.”
The project at Ira Reynolds Park was one of 18 projects funded through the 2024 grant round. It includes constructing a new non-motorized boat launch, a composting restroom, ADA accessible parking, picnic tables, and benches.
The Boating Facility Grant Program aims to provide grants for planning, acquisition, development, expansion, and rehabilitation of public boating facilities across Pennsylvania to ensure high-quality amenities for recreational boaters.
