Rep. Jonathan Fritz has announced that the School Safety and Security Committee has approved over $1.2 million in grants aimed at enhancing safety and security measures for schools within the 111th Legislative District. The funding is intended to support improvements in school safety, security, and entrance fortification.
Fritz expressed his satisfaction with the investment, stating, “I am pleased to see additional dollars invested in our region’s school districts for school safety, security and building entrance fortification.” He added that these efforts, alongside mental health initiatives, are crucial for ensuring peace of mind for parents, educators, and students.
The grants have been allocated to various school districts as follows: Blue Ridge School District received $141,787; Elk Lake School District was awarded $143,175; Forest City Regional School District got $139,519; Montrose Area School District received $150,558; Mountain View School District was allocated $141,569; Susquehanna Community School District obtained $139,779; Susquehanna County Career and Technical Center received $70,000; Wayne Highlands School District was granted $170,264; and Western Wayne School District received $157,361.
These funds were distributed through four types of grants: Noncompetitive School Mental Health Grants, Formula-Based School Safety and Security Meritorious Grants, Competitive School Safety and Security Grants, and Targeted School Safety Grants for Nonpublic Schools.
