Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Sen. Rosemary Brown have responded to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s recent decision to close more prison facilities in Pennsylvania, affirming that SCI Waymart is not on the closure list. The facility had previously faced potential closure eight years ago, but efforts led by Fritz and Brown kept it operational.

“Keeping SCI Waymart open has been a primary focus,” they stated, recalling their successful past efforts to prevent its closure. They reassured the community that despite new announcements of closures, SCI Waymart remains secure.

The legislators highlighted collaboration with prison administration, employees, and the Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association as key factors in maintaining the facility’s status. “The hard work and dedication of the men and women at SCI Waymart have been instrumental in securing its future,” they noted, emphasizing the importance of these jobs for families and the local economy.

Fritz and Brown urged continued vigilance to ensure SCI Waymart’s stability. They invited community input on supporting the facility and its workforce: “Your voice and engagement are critical in keeping our community thriving.”
