Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Sen. Lisa Baker have announced that six organizations in Susquehanna and Wayne counties will receive $1.47 million in grant funding through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). The funds, distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), are intended to support community revitalization efforts.
Fritz emphasized their advocacy for rural areas as primary recipients of these funds, stating, “Sen. Baker and I have been doing a ‘full court press’ advocating that DCED expand the Neighborhood Assistance Program.” He added that their efforts have resulted in doubled investments for local communities.
Baker highlighted the importance of these grants for community groups focused on health programs, job access, housing improvements, and enhancing recreational areas. She remarked, “These are good projects, advanced by groups who have experience in making every dollar count for the benefit of the community.”
The funded organizations include Commonwealth Charitable Management with $45,000 allocated for Elk Community Park's playground improvement; NEPA Community Health Care At Risk Services receiving $54,000 to hire an additional counselor; Susquehanna County Interfaith awarded $6,300 to expand mental health services; Susquehanna County Recreation Center obtaining $1.2 million for various facilities including a daycare center; Trehab granted $135,000 to assist families through its homeownership program; and Wayne County Community Foundation receiving $32,500 for developing a pedestrian plaza over the West Branch Lackawaxen River.
The NAP initiative provides tax credits to businesses contributing to nonprofit efforts aimed at community development across Pennsylvania.
