Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Sen. Lisa Baker have announced the approval of a natural gas extension project in Susquehanna County. The initiative will benefit the Mountain View School District and nearby residents, with funding totaling $966,783 from the Pipeline Investment Program (PIPE).
In 2019, Fritz introduced legislation to make PIPE grants more accessible for constructing natural gas distribution lines to business parks and industrial enterprises. The goal was to accelerate low-cost energy deployment and create new economic base jobs while providing access to natural gas for residents.
“I’m so pleased to see local taxpayers, schools, businesses and households benefit from the affordable, clean-burning natural gas that is underfoot in Susquehanna County,” Fritz stated. “This is just another example of the positive developments in our region thanks to energy.”
Senator Baker added, "Energy developed and used locally provides the best value for consumers and taxpayers. The pipelines necessary for distribution of natural gas have become key pieces of community infrastructure. Projects like this are a win-win because we help secure jobs and help contain energy costs."
The funds were awarded to Leatherstocking Gas Company, LLC. They plan to install 5,900 linear feet of pipeline that will supply Jeffers Farms Inc., the Mountain View School District, and area residents with natural gas. The project also includes building a gate station and a pipeline interconnection.
