Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Sen. Rosemary Brown have announced a significant investment in Honesdale aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility. The Greater Honesdale Partnership is set to receive $1.33 million for improvements along a section of Main Street.

The planned enhancements include stamped concrete walkways, curbing, lighting, utility updates, and bench amenities. These improvements will adhere to Americans with Disabilities Act standards, ensuring access for all citizens. The project also includes 8-foot-wide sidewalk pathways, crosswalks, and additional lighting on State Route 006.

"This is big news for Honesdale, a small town that continues to grow and see success," Fritz stated. He emphasized the project's role in beautifying Main Street while enhancing its safety and appeal.

Brown highlighted the project's importance by saying it would boost Honesdale's economic vitality and provide a safer downtown area for residents, visitors, and businesses.

The funding comes from the federal Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA), which supports projects like pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure improvements for non-drivers accessing public transportation, environmental mitigation efforts, trails serving transportation purposes, and safe routes to school initiatives.
