Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Sen. Lisa Baker have announced that six organizations in Susquehanna and Wayne counties will receive $1.47 million in grant funding. The funds, provided through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), aim to revitalize communities and empower residents.
"Sen. Baker and I have been doing a 'full court press' advocating that DCED expand the Neighborhood Assistance Program, as rural areas are primary recipients of these dollars," said Fritz. "Those efforts paid off, and we’ll begin seeing double the amount invested in our rural communities through this program."
Baker added, "This money is vital to community groups seeking to strengthen health programs, improve access to jobs and housing, and expand the physical attractions of parks and recreation areas in our towns."
The funding will be distributed among several projects: Commonwealth Charitable Management will receive $45,000 for improvements at Elk Community Park; NEPA Community Health Care At Risk Services will get $54,000 for mental health services; Susquehanna County Interfaith will obtain $6,300 for expanding mental health and job readiness services; Susquehanna County Recreation Center is allocated $1.2 million for multiple facilities including a daycare center; Trehab will use $135,000 to assist families with homeownership; Wayne County Community Foundation is granted $32,500 for a new pedestrian plaza over the West Branch Lackawaxen River.
The NAP provides tax credits to businesses contributing to nonprofit organizations' efforts across Pennsylvania.
