Wayne County recently issued the following announcement.
Wayne County hosts a public hearing on Monday, Aug. 16, to receive suggestions for projects to be funded by approximately $98,500 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, specifically for the Borough of Honesdale. The entitlement grant will be used to meet one of three national objectives: benefit low- to moderate-income individuals, help eliminate blight or meet a particularly urgent need.
Wayne County, on behalf of Honesdale Borough, welcomes suggestions for use of these funds based on community needs. Suggestions may be either: 1) shared at a public hearing on August 16, 2021 at 5:30 p.m.; or 2) submitted before noon on the date of the hearing to hdleboro@ptd.net.
The purpose of the public hearing is to discuss the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in general, the needs of Honesdale Borough, Honesdale Borough’s performance under the previously funded CDBG Program years, and to take views and comments from the public related to the availability of funding for FFY 2021. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend and will be offered the opportunity to give oral testimony at the Public Hearing.
CDBG funds can be used for water and sewer line replacement and improvements; housing rehabilitation; construction of affordable housing; construction/reconstruction of public/community facilities; recreational facilities; public services that are new or provide quantifiable increases in the delivery of services; street improvements; historic preservation; removal of architectural barriers; code enforcement; economic development; acquisition and relocation as well as clearance and demolition.
Applications are being accepted for eligible projects in Wayne County. Interested parties may request an application by contacting Jessica Dreistadt at jdreistadt@hailstoneeconomic or (484) 225-4929 or access the online application. Completed applications are due on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
The County will provide technical assistance, upon request, to any groups or persons when developing proposals intending to use CDBG funds.
