Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.
The Bag-a-Month (BAM) food collection program sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 797, celebrates 9 complete years of operation on September 1, 2021.
Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners during that time, BAM has donated $189,240.00 to the three local food pantries that serve our parish (Honesdale, Lakeville, and Loaves and Fishes) as well as tons of non-perishable food. The food collection aspect of BAM was suspended during the COVID-19 restrictions and will resume at a later date.
The money collected for BAM is used by the pantries to purchase fresh food, meats, vegetables, and dairy products for the families served and all the monetary collections go directly to the pantries; BAM has no administrative costs.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
When the food collection process resumes, the Knights have provided very nice substantial canvas bags to help carry the donated food products.
A recommended bag of food consists of 2 cans of tuna, 2 cans of vegetable soup,1 jar spaghetti sauce,1 pound spaghetti or rice, 2 macaroni and cheese, 2 cans of green vegetable, 1 can of fruit,1 powdered mild, 1 peanut butter, 2 cans of baked beans, and 1 box unsweetened cereal. These are written on the canvas bags.
Bags are available at the collection sites at Queen of Peace and St. Veronica churches. The BAM collections are the first full weekend of every month.
